What is Permanent Makeup? - What is does it entail? Who is a suitable candidate?
We have all heard the buzz words, “permanent makeup”, “semi permanent makeup”, “ombré brows”, “microshading” or even the antiquated term, “tattooed makeup” but many of us, do not know what the exact process is.
Permanent makeup is a form of tattooing that will enhance your natural beauty and enhance your features you wish to me more noticeable. This is done by implanting pigment into the dermis (top layer of skin) to appear like natural looking makeup, Permanent Makeup can also be referred to as cosmetic tattooing or micro pigmentation.
How does permanent makeup work? Permanent makeup, is done with the use of a pen containing iron oxide that tattoos the skin and to create the look of makeup. A tattoo can mimic eyeliner or lipstick, or it can darken and create the look of thicker eyebrows.
Is permanent makeup the same as tattoo?
Tattoo ink vs pigments:
Getting permanent makeup doesn't exactly mean getting inked. When tattooing, what is injected into the skin is ink, while permanent makeup uses pigments. Pigments used are iron oxides, usually with some water and glycerine added.
All permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent as pigment is implanted into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin. As with any tattoo or implanted pigment, fading does occur, requiring periodic maintenance referred to as color boosts or touch ups.
Is permanent makeup painful?
Overall, permanent makeup is a very painless procedure if the right numbing cream is used. There might be some uncomfortable sounds involved, but you will be pleasantly surprised about how little you feel. Some clients of ours even fall asleep when getting permanent makeup done.
How long does permanent make up last?
Most colors last three to five years, although some may not fade for as long as 10 years. Periodic touchups are recommended to maintain the desired look. You can also choose to change colors of your permanent makeup.
Can permanent makeup be removed?
Permanent makeup removal is definitely possible, but it takes 2+ sessions spaced out at least 4-6 weeks apart. So it can drag out for months. The most efficient PMU removal methods are laser, saline, and glycolic acid removal, and they sometimes need to be combined for maximum effects.
